Atomic Theory Kit

Quick answer: A grades 9 to 12 kit of three simulations recreating the experiments that determined the early structure of the atom: charge interaction, hidden-shape determination by marble trajectory, and accounting for the mass of a sealed container. Materials for 32 students in groups of 4.
Three simulations, each standing in for a historical experiment, and each with a genuinely investigative structure rather than a confirmatory one.
In the first, students observe the interaction of charged objects and use an object of known charge to determine the unknown charge of another. In the second, they shoot marbles at a concealed object and use the trajectories to work out its shape, which is the Rutherford experiment reduced to its logic: you cannot see the target, so you infer it from how things bounce off. In the third, they attempt to account for the additional mass of a sealed container otherwise identical to an unsealed one, which is the conservation-of-mass argument that underpinned early atomic theory.
The second of those is the one that teaches the most, because students usually assume you have to see something to know its shape. Discovering that a scattering pattern is enough is the same insight Rutherford had, and it makes the nuclear model follow naturally.
Materials are sufficient for 32 students working in groups of 4, which is 8 groups and a straightforward match to a full class. Specified for grades 9 to 12. The component list, the marble and target materials, and whether consumables can be replenished are not published; ask before ordering.
